Woman’s Changing Hormone Levels

The goal of Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is to bring those levels back to what they initially were.

It’s no secret that our hormone levels change drastically as we age. Consider these three examples:
– Testosterone levels in twenty-year-old women are typically between 70-90 ng/dL. But when women reach fifty years old, those levels drop significantly – to somewhere between 2 – 10 ng/dL.

That means if you are fifty or older, you are operating on 5-10% of the hormones you had in your body thirty years ago!

The goal of Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is to bring those levels back to what they initially were.
–  Estradiol in that same young female may be 200 pg/ml, but when she is fifty, it may be 5 or 10 pg/ml. That’s 2-5% of the levels from thirty years earlier! She will be told by doctors that this is “normal” for her age.
– Her progesterone when she was young ranged from 15 to 25 ng/ml, but now that she is fifty years old, it is .9 ng/ml. She will be told she is within normal range “for her age.” Progesterone is one of the most important female hormones with many essential functions. A realistic goal is to increase her progesterone up to at least 5 ng/ml or even to 10 or 15 ng/ml.

So women, when your husband tells you “You’re not the woman I married!” he now has medical proof!

But seriously, you knew that already, didn’t you?
You knew that things were changing. You could feel it … emotionally … physically … things just weren’t the same. Oh, you couldn’t put your finger on exactly what it was. You certainly didn’t know the medical facts to prove it. But you knew something was different.

And what you were told is that these changes were normal, they were to be expected, and that there was nothing that could really be done about it.
